You will receive an 8-12″ plant like those pictured. Hispaniola tree cactus Pilosocereus polygonus ssp. polygonus is rare in cultivation and found only on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean. I have a limited supply of these grown from a small seed batch.
It grows into a tall candelabriform tree cactus and has a grey-green coloration with long thick tufts of areole wool at flowering maturity. I have a licensed Florida nursery and can sell to the lower 48 except California.
Caring for Pilosocereus polygonus ssp. polygonus, a remarkable cactus, is straightforward. Plant it in well-draining soil and provide ample sunlight, ideally in a sunny spot. Water sparingly, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings, especially during its winter dormancy.
Fertilize with a diluted, balanced cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer), typically every 6-8 weeks. Pruning is rarely necessary, but remove any dead or damaged growth if it occurs.
Protect the cactus from frost and harsh cold, as it’s not cold-tolerant. With these steps, your Pilosocereus polygonus ssp. polygonus will thrive and reveal its unique beauty in your succulent collection.
