Scientific Name: Philodendron Madagascar
Common Name:
Native To: South America
Description: This interesting philodendron initially came to us several years ago from a grower in Thailand. There isn’t much info out there about it, and I’m not sure if it is a species, or hybrid. Unlike many philodendrons, Madagascar likes to be a bit on the dry side. The thick, almost succulent leaves form on short petioles, and short, alternating internodes. The symmetrical appearance is fairly unique amongst philodendrons, and can make quite the display as the plant climbs. We’ve seen leaves up to almost a foot in length, and I’m not sure if that’s as big as they will get. We highly recommend giving this plant something to climb. Without anything to climb it will crawl, “standing” on its roots, and never get very large. Really an interesting plant, and quite easy to care for as long as you don’t overwater it. Pic 1 shows a more mature plant for reference.
Our Plants: All of our plants are grown and propagated in our central Florida nursery. We produce our plants the old fashioned way, via seed, cutting, or division. We’ll never sell you a tissue cultured clone, or an imported plant.
Our Guarantee: We have the best safe arrival guarantee in the business. Any plant we ship is guaranteed to arrive safely, even if it gets lost in the mail! While plants will almost always arrive in perfect condition, sometimes there can be minor some shipping stress, or minor damage. Plants may arrive looking droopy, or with a leaf or two damaged in some instances. Anything more than that, just let us know.
Winter Shipping: We ship all year long with winterized shipping, and our safe arrival guarantee. If your nighttime lows are below 45 degrees, please purchase our winterized shipping option for just $5. This includes a 72 hour heat pack, and insulation if necessary. If your temperatures are below 45, and you do not add winterized shipping, we cannot guarantee safe arrival. Temperatures below zero, or storms severe enough to cause postal disruptions may result in a shipping delay.
