Hoyas are low-maintenance houseplant found in tropical climates of Southeast Asia and Australia, they all do share similar requirements in care. Growing them as a houseplant is easy and doesn’t need much care and attention once established. Hoya has trailing vines with flecking silvery variegation leaves, clusters of fragrant star-shaped flowers that appear on the vines, and succulent vines with thick, waxy, and glossy leaves. Medium to bright, indirect light and preferably placed adjacent to a window—south, east, or west facing will do. Hoyas do not mind being a little bit rootbound.
You can plant them in a pot or in a hanging basket where they cascade their beautiful foliage. It thrives in bright and indirect sunlight and well-drained soil. Hoya loves in high humidity environments where they are happy in their natural habitat. Choose a well-drained soil and keep it moist, not wet. The thick, waxy leaves retain more water than you might think.
Experienced hoya collectors will even wait until the leaves slightly pucker before watering. Fertilizing them once a month during their growing season using a water-soluble balanced fertilizer will help them boost their growth. You can propagate them via stem cuttings.
